I Found Skanderbeg

Another day of constant activity. Breathlessly trying to squeeze out a blog entry while my brain still works.

I received my first info specific to Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL), the focus of my work here. Again, the people in charge seem to know what they're doing. I had my introductory interview with the TEFL staff. I don't recall putting any feet in my mouth.

More language instruction. This Shqip won't learn itself.

I've grown accustomed to the many fine meals here. They don't let us go hungry. Also, they don't post a menu anywhere I can find. I think we had lamb yesterday. I didn't know that when I ate it.

We watched a TED Talk called The Danger of a Single Story. Find it on Youtube if you're curious. It's the version posted 8 years ago. I eat up this sort of thing.

Dinner. The 20-somethings continue to let me sit at their table and treat me as an equal. I kind of feel as though I've been teleporated back to being a college freshman. Except when they talk about things like Snapchat and Whatsapp. Whatever those things are.

I needed a light jacket. Found this one while exploring a mall with Antonia and Thomas, two of my favorite vols. The jacket is a winner.

Lastly, I went on two separate after-dark walking journeys to Skanderbeg Square, the city's paved central plaza containing a giant statue of Skanderbeg, the Albanian nat'l hero, and also flanked by a giant national history museum and what we thought might be the national library? I hope to come back and learn more. Actually, I have my alarm set for 6:30am to come back when the sun is up. I can't get enough sleep here every night, I guess. Zzzzzzz....
