I'm back! I'm shooting for 3 blog entries per week. Let's see how that goes.
Or, actually, more of a cautionary tale.
In language class a while back, I tried to talk about what I had for dinner the previous night with my host family. I said to the class, "Hëngra mish burri." What I MEANT to say, however, is "Hëngra mish derri."
This is mish derri:
(It sounds like "meesh dairy" with a rolled 'R.'")
Known in the USA as pork. It is something my host family makes that is quite tasty.
Here's what this is NOT: "mish burri." This would mean "husband meat." So I mistakenly told everyone that I had eaten husband meat for dinner. Awesome!
Also, March 7 was Teacher's Day in Albania. Classes in schools are canceled, and students bring gifts to their teachers. In the spirit of cultural integration, and because we like our teachers, our language class followed suit and celebrated Teacher's Day (even though our classes were not canceled).
Here's what it looked like. Elvana has the curly hair; Besarta (Besi) has the darker hair. Note Thor's ominous gaze from behind the easel.
